Safeguarding Critical Assets When the Power Goes Out 


Challenge: As hurricane season approached, a Fortune 500 retailer faced repeated storm threats along the Gulf Coast. Their stores relied on backup generators to maintain operations, but those units often became targets for fuel theft and tampering after major storms. When power failed, alarm systems went offline and local law enforcement was focused on emergency response, leaving critical assets vulnerable at multiple locations. The client needed a way to protect their generators, maintain site integrity, and ensure a safe return to business after the storm.

Response: Before the hurricane made landfall, NJB Protection’s operations team activated a storm-readiness plan. Licensed officers were deployed to multiple high-risk sites to protect generators, fuel supplies, and loading areas from theft or damage. Officers remained on site throughout the storm and provided hourly updates to the client’s regional command team, allowing for continuous visibility even when communications were down. Once the storm passed, NJB maintained presence as repair crews and employees returned, ensuring all equipment remained safe and operational.

Result & Takeaway: All covered locations reported zero losses and no disruption to post-storm reopening. By securing generators and high-value equipment, NJB helped the client restore operations faster than neighboring businesses that experienced theft and vandalism. The client has since incorporated NJB’s hurricane-response program into its annual disaster preparedness plan, citing NJB’s proactive deployment, reliability, and clear communication as key advantages.
